Pupils across Gloucestershire have the chance to design their own lion cubs for the Lions at Large sculpture trail, part of the Pride of Gloucestershire Trail set for 2025. Organised by Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity, this initiative aims to raise funds for new cancer facilities in Cheltenham. Schools joining the Cub Club will receive a lion cub sculpture to decorate if they pledge to raise a minimum of £750. The trail will feature these mini sculptures alongside larger ones created by artists, transforming public spaces in Cheltenham and Gloucester into vibrant, artistic displays.
Holy Apostles’ C of E Primary School in Cheltenham has already signed up. Headteacher Dan Smith expressed excitement about the educational and inspirational opportunities for pupils. Pupil Sophie Massey shared her enthusiasm for painting the lion and seeing it displayed on the trail.
The charity has partnered with Wild in Art, with Gloucester BID and Cheltenham BID as presenting partners. Businesses can also sponsor large lion sculptures, contributing to the beautification of public spaces while supporting a worthy cause. This initiative promotes community engagement, creativity, and healthy outdoor activities for families.
