A YouGov poll, commissioned by the think tank Common Wealth, surveyed 2,157 people and revealed that nearly two-thirds of respondents also support higher taxes on buy-to-let properties. The results indicate a growing sentiment that property investors and second-home owners should contribute more to help tackle the UK’s housing challenges.
With housing shortages and affordability concerns on the rise, many believe that increased taxation on second homes could be a step towards a fairer housing market. However, opinions remain divided, with some arguing that such measures may discourage investment in the property sector.
